In the spring of 2023, the Municipality of Morin-Heights decided to acquire a strategic 57-acre site via a right of preemption to prevent it from becoming a major real estate development.
Partly wooded, this natural gem boasts three small lakes, a pond, access to the Chevreuil River and the Aerobic Corridor, and seven buildings. The Castel Marie estate, long owned by the Congregation of Notre-Dame de Charité du Bon Pasteur, is on Route 364, just north of Bennett Street.
In winter 2024, the municipal council launched an online public consultation, followed by a presentation of the results and a citizen discussion in the spring. The public clearly expressed their desire to preserve the site in its most natural state while allowing activities with low environmental impact. Precise uses have yet to be defined.
Je suis allée faire une balade avec ma fille par une belle journée automnale et j’ai eu un coup de cœur ❤️. Quelle bonne initiative de protéger ce bel emplacement qui a de l’histoire.
Je pense a utiliser particulièrement l’église pour faire un musée historique de toute l’histoire de cette communauté. Il y a certainement de multiples possibilités.
